IronKey

IronKey subsidized and deployed by the U.S. government

In 2005, IronKey was founded in California. The U.S. federal government partially funded this development with a $1.4 million grant. The U.S. government has deployed products from IronKey in various areas. The Dutch government has also deployed IronKey models for classification level RESTRICTED.

IronKey acquisition by Imation

In September 2011 IronKey was acquired by Imation. The products continued under the same brand and later IronKey hard drives were added to the product line.

Acquisition of IronKey USB by Kingston and DataLocker

In early 2016, Kingston announced that it had acquired IronKey's USB technology and assets. In addition, DataLocker acquired IronKey's Enterprise Management Service (EMS), external hard drives and technical engineers from Imation.
