The Viasat DARC 100 is the commercial version of the Viasat DARC 600. As no complicated authorisation process is required, the Viasat DARC 100 series comes with a Self-Key solution. The advantage is that you create the secret keys (with the Random Key Generator) yourself during installation. In doing so, you also decide whether or not you want to use two-factor authentication with Viasat's KeyStone tokens. In short, the Viasat DARC 100 Is flexible within your organisation.

Why the Viasat DARC 100?

Note: You cannot upgrade the Viasat DARC 100 to the Viasat DARC 600. Moreover, with the 100, you do not meet SECRET level security requirements and standards. Also, the key management and instructions for transport are not in the hands of a crypto custodian, which makes the security slightly weaker than with the Viasat DARC 600. 

Viasat approvals

The Viasat product families feature UK CAPS (NCSC) evaluated products that encrypt data to TOP SECRET and NATO SECRET. This makes Viasat the market leader in encryption capabilities. Outside the UK, the same applies. Certain Viasat products (ECLYPT) have been certified to TOP SECRET by CSE Canada and by NATO for SECRET and below. This means that Viasat is a highly reliable partner in protecting highly sensitive data.

The difference between the Viasat DARC 100 and the Viasat DARC 600

The difference between the Viasat DARC 100 and the higher-end DARC 600 series, starts with the Key Production process. 
DARC 100 drives generate their own key produced by the Random Key Generator, so as soon as they are delivered, they are ready to initialise and deploy.
DARC 600 drives need a government supplied Key before they can be initialised for secure use. These Keys are securely provided and managed by a Crypto Custodian. Hart 4 Technology will help you with this process. These Keys and user token data is loaded by the Crypto Custodian Kit, which is purchased as a separate item.
